Gin & Tonic

Quick Facts

Cocktail History

Gin & Tonic is one of the world’s oldest cocktails. Its origins actually trace back hundreds of years when the drink was used as an alcohol-based tonic consisting of Gin and water. During colonial times in India, tonic was added to Gin for a delicious beverage to help ward off malaria. It soon went global, becoming beloved in both Britain and Spain with Gin & Tonics taking over pub life across Europe. Thanks to its light taste and refreshing fizziness, Gin & Tonic remains one of the more popular drinks today! Surprisingly, Gin was seen as mostly a female choice in its early days because it consisted of spices reminiscent of perfume – how times have changed!
