Tequila Margarita

Margarita

Quick Facts

Cocktail History

Margaritas have been around for decades, and it’s always a surprisingly fun journey to discover the story behind one of our favorite cocktails. In essence, Margarita is a tequila-based cocktail made with lime and triple sec. To some, Margaritas might appear quite simple, but their origin story is anything but! Its first recorded sighting dates back to 1941 when it was supposedly first served in Mexico City by bartender Don Carlos Orozco at Tommy Hilton’s bar. Many stories surround Margarita’s creation, with speculation that the drink was inspired by Mexican showgirls who used to frequent the bar and were fondly referred to as Margaritas – which translates loosely to “daisies” in Spanish. Regardless of what truth lies behind Margarita’s intriguing history, one thing remains certain: Margarita is here to stay and will remain a classic drink for years to come.
