Kentucky Sunrise is a unique cocktail hailing from Kentucky that has an approximately 100-year history. It’s an exciting surprise combination of Kentucky bourbon, orange juice, and either grenadine or Maraschino cherry juice. Invented in Kentucky in the early 1920s, Kentucky Sunrise was one of the first cocktails to use the state’s famous locally distilled bourbon. This particular cocktail quickly gained fame within Kentucky and spread to other places. Perfect for sipping on a hot summer day, Kentucky Sunrise is known for its tart sweetness, eccentric history, and citrusy aroma – it’s no wonder why it has stood the test of time!

Ingredients

  • 1 oz Bourbon
  • 1/2 oz part Grenadine
  • 3 oz Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice
  • Garnish: Orange Slice or a Cherry

Cocktail Preparation

In a tall highball glass, add the grenadine, bourbon and orange juice in that exact order. Float the grenadine. Garnish with an orange slice or a cherry.
