Batanga

Quick Facts

Cocktail History

A Batanga is a cocktail made with tequila, lime juice, and cola (aka the Mexican Coke) and served in a glass with a salted rim. Its sister cocktail is the Cuba Libre, except with tequila in place of rum. Credit for the invention of the drink is often given to Don Javier Delgado, owner of La Capilla in Tequila, Mexico, who was said to have invented it in 1961.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Tequila
  • 4 oz Cola (typically Coca-Cola)
  • 1/2 oz Lime Juice
  • Optional: Aromatic Bitters
  • Garnish: Lime Wedge

Cocktail Preparation

This is one of those drinks that is fairly simple to make using ingredients you likely have in your fridge already. In a rocks glass or highball filled with ice, add your Tequila first, then your cola. Modern-day recipes include aromatic bitters, which improves the taste and flavor of the drink but is optional. Add your lime juice and stir. Garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy!
