Everyone loves a little spin on a classic cocktail and adding peaches to your Old Fashioned during the summer seems like a no-brainer. Peach Liqueur doesn’t necessarily need to be thought of as a complementary ingredient to a sweet drink. In fact, this cocktail was created by Jason Shullo, the beverage director for Golden Entertainment, who operates casinos and resorts in Nevada and Maryland. He states that “You can overcome this stigma by using small amounts of it in craft cocktails to balance smoky flavors and enhance the peach taste.” According to Shullo, peach schnapps works well in bourbon-based drinks like Smashes, Cobblers, or Julep. This cocktail also receives the Wisconsin treatment as did most old-fashioned drinks received in the 1980’s-the 90s: muddling orange slices and cherries at the base of the drink to begin.
- 2oz Bourbon
- 1 oz Peach Liqueur (preferably DeKuyper® Peachtree® Schnapps)
- 2 dashes Bitters
- 1-2 Orange Slices
- 1 Maraschino Cherries
- Garnish: Peach Wedge
Pull the stem off of the cherry and drop it in an old-fashioned glass with orange slices and bitters. Muddle gently with a half teaspoon of sugar. Fill glass with ice and add spirits, stir to combine. Garnish with a slice of peach, enjoy!
