Everyone loves a riff or variation on a famous cocktail, just to switch things up. That’s exactly what we have with the Tart N’ Sand which was created by bartender Charlotte Voisey’s. This cocktail is a riff on the classic Blood and Sand recipe. Voisey’s recipe keeps only the scotch, replacing everything else with more complex, interesting choices: muddled brandied cherries instead of cherry brandy, Lillet Rouge (a red wine apéritif) in place of sweet vermouth, and a combination of blood orange liqueur and fresh citrus juices instead of orange juice.
INGREDIENTS
- 4 whole Brandied cherries
- 3/4 oz Scotch
- 3/4 oz Blood orange liqueur
- 3/4 oz Red wine apéritif
- 1/2 oz Grapefruit juice
- 1/2 oz Lemon juice
- 2 dashes Orange bitters
PREPARATION
Muddle the cherries in a shaker. Add the remaining ingredients and shake well. Double-strain through a fine mesh strainer into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry and/or orange slice, or any other citrus you have on hand.
