The Scofflaw cocktail was an obscure, yet highly delicious Prohibition-era cocktail made with rye, dry vermouth, orange bitters, and a touch of grenadine. Scofflaw – meaning a person who flouts the law, especially by failing to comply with a law that is difficult to enforce effectively, was a fitting name for this cocktail. The cocktail actually debuted in Harry’s Bar in Paris and was named due to the Americans suffering through prohibition and drinking in secrecy.
