The Harvey Wallbanger is a spin-off the classic screwdriver cocktail with the addition of Italian liqueur Galliano. History of the cocktail dates back to the 50’s where three-time world champion mixologist Donato “Duke” Antone apparently invented it naming it after a popular Manhattan Beach Surfer named Tom Harvey. Other historians state the facts don’t line up and that is was created by McKesson Imports Company in the late 1960’s by a marketing director. Either way, this popular drink brought fame to Galliano liqueur making it the most imported liqueur in the 1970’s bringing in over 500,000 cases in a year.
