Cuba Libre

Not to confuse anyone with the name, but the Cuba Libre is simply a Rum and Coke, which is a highball cocktail consisting of rum and cola. Many recipes garnish with a lime or add lime juice. This drink was created in Cuba in the early 1900s and became popular in the states shortly after bottle Coca-Cola was first imported into Cuba from the United States. The ratio of rum to coke is really dependant on how strong you are looking to make your drink.

  • 2 oz Rum
  • 4 oz Cola (typically Coca-Cola)
  • 1/2 oz Lime Juice
  • Optional: Aromatic Bitters
  • Garnish: Lime Wedge

This is one of those drinks that is fairly simple to make using ingredients you likely have in your fridge already. In a rocks glass or highball filled with ice, add your rum first, then your cola. Modern-day recipes include aromatic bitters, which improves the taste and flavor of the drink but is optional. Add your lime juice and stir. Garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy!
