The origins of this drink go all the way back to the 1920s when it was first concocted at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel as Charlie Chaplin rose to fame in silent films. Sloe gin, the main spirit in this cocktail is a red fruit-infused liqueur from England, likely a nod to Chaplin’s British roots.
